Katja Glieson’s new single ‘Happily Never After’, an electro-pop/rock heartbreak ballad merging the purity of many innocent and naive young girls with the anger and passion of a woman scorned by the cliché ‘Mr Nice Guy’.

“Happily Never After” is a Pop-Rock/Electro song, written and recorded by Australian recording artist Katja Glieson. It is the 5th track on Katja’s first studio EP “Terminium City” (2013). Soon to be released as Episode 5 of Katja’s Pop-Series, which incorporates cinematic episodical music videos with intermittent dialogue driven scenes, to develop the storyline of the tumultuous world of “Terminium City.” An original series created by Glieson, following Special Agent Kitty and her cyborg double M.K.1 (both played by Katja) and her dealings with the dark and dangerous citizens of the city. The storyline is peppered with symbolism, metaphor and emotional situations and themes that she says is “analogous to… (her) life”.

“Happily Never After” is a power pop/rock song with a broad and powerful vocal performance, reminding the listener of a track from Kelly Clarkson or Demi Lovato. The catchy instrumentation has a strong guitar lead with drum and bass complimenting the equally catchy and intricate lyric and melody.
Glieson wrote this song after a dramatic break up with a “Mr. Nice Guy”. This long time friend, who had been there for her during a recent break up, shattered her heart to pieces by leading her to believe he was, as the song reveals, “everything, that (she’d) been missing and more.” The vulnerability and heartache is expressed in the lyric and vocal performance with a powerful anger as the realization that the man she gave up everything for was not who he was pretending to be. Katja describes it as the song that was the most difficult for her to write and that she can “never get through a live performance without crying.”
The question is – is it a coincidence that the fairy tale theme of the song was based on the fact that the Mr Nice Guy played the role of The Beast as she played Belle in a production of Beauty and the Beast in Australia? It’s that moment you realise, that sometimes you just don’t ride off into the sunset…
